The Group was founded by the late Tan Sri Dato' Seri Lee Loy Seng, thus sharing a common heritage with Batu Kawan Berhad and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, both listed on Bursa Malaysia and having businesses in Inorganic chemicals; plantations; oleochemical products; retails, cocoa processing, rubber gloves; wood parquet and property developments.

From a property based group, the Taiko Group has diversified its businesses into 6 business units or groups - namely Chemical Trading (Taiko Marketing); HDPE drum (Taiko HDPE Drum); Bleaching Clay (Taiko Clay); Property (Taiko Properties); Bituminous Products & Sporting facilities (Taiko Bituminious Products) and Aviation (Smooth Route). Besides involved in chemical trading, Taiko Marketing also manages the sales operation of the Inorganic Chemicals business of Batu Kawan Berhad.
